Just bought an '05 Tacoma with the 2.7 I4. Occasionally it has been hard to start and today if finally set an error code for the crank sensor. Truck only has 40K. I quickly tried to locate the crank sensor but without a manual I had no luck. Does anyone know if the sensor is on the front or rear of the block? Also, anyone answering this might know a little about Toyotas with the 2.7.....I have read some articals tonight about major problems with piston slap and bad cranks for 2000 to 2004's. Does anyone know if the 2.7 was redesigned in 2005? If not...I might put this thing up for sale. I do not need that type of problem. This thing has 40K on it....I dont need another vehicle to work on all the time.

A: In the NADA guide books, the Tacoma is listed as an automatic transmission. However, when you check the options, it has a deduction for manual transmission. I really don't think you have a VIN problem. The manual transmission just decreases the value.

how you turn off,the service light(yellow light)
A: First, do the service (oil change, etc.) then with ignition off, push and hold the odometer reset button. Turn on the ignition (don't crank the engine over) and continue to hold the button. Several dashed lines will appear where the odometer display is normally. hold the button until these disappear. the light will come back on in about 4500 miles when you turn the engine on. It will stay on for a few seconds then turn off. When the light is on all of the time, you have reached the max oil change interval.

A: 1) auto or manual will affect mpg, 2) 4x2, or 4x4, 3) prerunner,
or reg tacoma?
I have a 05 4.0 v6 auto prerunner access cab w/sport pkg,
and l get 20mpg city, 24 hwy.
Cold air intake will help some, so will the dual exhaust, if the chip is for performance, it may cost some mpg.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!! Why spend a lot of dollars, for a little savings in gas. (exhaust-$225PLUS, chip BIG$)
Mine does just fine with NO modifications.
Q: My 2005 toyota tacoma isn't starting...?
It ran fine on Monday, but I just went out there to start it and it just made a clacking noise and wouldn't start at all. The interior light worked fine, so it's not the battery...help me, please!!!
A: working interior lights does NOT signify a working battery. It could be the battery. But I dunno about that clanking sound.
