Q: What is the best 2001 Tacoma lift kit?
I want to get a nice 3" lift kit for my 2001 Toyota Tacoma for a reasonable price. Most of the ones ive seen on the Internet run about $300. But trucks are not my specialty, so I need a person who knows them best to give me a good idea about which lift kit I should look for.

A: Skyjacker lift kits are reasonably priced and very durable. If you just want looks then get generic or get a suspension or air lift as it will save a lot.

Q: 2001 Toyota Tacoma: Ignition won't turn/start when clutch is pushed in. Only starts when clutch is disabled.
-2001 Toyota Tacoma 4WD 2.7L -Standard (manual) transmission -Battery is alive -No sound when turning key normally with clutch pressed to the floor -Starts only when "Clutch Cancel" button is activated I had my car off for a few minutes (I went to the store) and when I tried to turn it on again, there was no sound whatsoever when I turned my key all the way. The battery showed no signs of being low (lights, radio, etc. came on). There was no clicking either. As a last ditch effort I pressed the "Clutch Cancel" button, and then turned the key. The engine started completely normally at that point and I was able to drive home. Got home and tried a normal (clutch) start again and it didn't work. Anyone know what's wrong? Thanks so much!

A: the switch on your clutch pedal has failed, you pretty much found your own problem! Too bad most cars don't have that majic button

Q: 2001 toyota tacoma when i go over dips the backend rolls to one side, new shock absorbers?
the bed i empty

A: Yes, you need to replace the rear shocks, a very simple job. I only use Bilstein shocks, but they are expensive. A very good alternative is the Rancho 5000's, about $45.00 each. These are the only two shocks I would recommend. If you need installation instructions, write another question, I will answer.

Q: 2001 Toyota Tacoma squeaking sound coming from left wheel ?
i took it to the shop and they said i have 40% brake pad left i had them deglaze the rotors he said they are pitted, when i drive down the road the left wheel squeaks but when i tap the brakes it go's away for 5 min than comes back, if i hold the brake down a quarter inch it stops completely and till i let off the brake should i replace the brake rotors is that what is squeaking?

A: the problem you are having is because you have semi-metallic brake pad squealing. Your brake pads have metal in them. certain layers of the abrasive compound have more metal in them than others. resurfacing the rotor will not fix the problem. you just put the old pads which are the problem back on a fresh cut rotor. you need a proper brake service done. 40% will fly by fast. my advice is either live with the noise or get a proper brake job. do not cut the rotors again as they are porbably below specifications. invest in a decent set of ceramic pads for around 35 dollars. when you do so put new rotors on and you will be fine for around 60k miles. the deglaze rotor service is a joke and i dont understand why people do that as it does nothing for the vehicle besideds make the rotor thinner and that reduces its ability to dissipate heat and causes more squealing issues for the future.

Q: 2001 toyota tacoma, has anyone had to replace timing chain?

A: What enghine do you have , it depepnds which 4cyl the 2.4 or 2.7 Yes chains do wear out and so do the timing gears. Especially the tensioning components such as the timing chain slide rail and tensioning rail. Also the timing chain tensioner does loose its original load rate and is replaced also. So YES Chains and components DO wear out. Just not as soon as Belts And im a Tech , Both these engines are RZ and Both have timing chains The SAME to be exact . Only the V6 is a timing belt. Thats why i inquired if it was 2.4 or 2.7

Q: what type of gear oil do i need for my 5 speed manual 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4?

Q: 2001 Toyota Tacoma (auto trans)makes a ticking noise when sitting still in park, but not when moving.?

A: Easiest thing to do on a car of this year is to take this car to the dealership and hook it up to a diagnostic computer and let them read the codes on the car... if there is a problem, it is recorded into the on-board computer. Ticking sound during idling could be totally normal, but it is also a vague symptom so even if it is a problem you will only be able to detect exactly what it is through the computer diagnostic codes. I've had to do this a couple times with my newer Volvo, they charge about $70.00 for a diagnostic... you'd have to check with Toyota to see what they charge, but at least it is 100% certain when they get the code and not just some back yard mechanic guessing and wasting your time (and possibly screwing up your car).

Q: 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 that has100K want to switch to full synthetic ?
i have only owned the truck for one year as far as i know it has always ran conventional oil is it true that if i switch this late in the trucks life that it will cause seal leaking it currently has no leaks and runs great

A: as i been in automotive industry for about 10 years , it's a great job and am now 24 years old too young , yea well i had done motor swept , transmission, to body shop to oil changes and u names it . changing oil on times is least things u can do to a car , as if u notice in the owner manual it tell u to change the oil at 5000 miles , but the oil company want you to change it at 3000 miles ( so they can stay in business) . the oil that they take for free at any auto store it go for recycling , that mean they just add some chemical ,dye, and go thru filtering it take 48 hours define 120 gallons and cost them about 25 dollars procces is done and now your putting oil that u have no idea where it comefrom and what engine . if your sitching to syntheticis a good idea but stick to it .make sure no leak or you would be adding a 5 dollars quart every 500 miles , but on ur first synthetic oil change should be at 500 miles cause it would be black oil that mean it just cleaned ur engine and carbons, and then take down the oil pan and clean it, install new pan gasket and clean the oil pump screen . cheap oil :change it at 2000 miles good oil yu can get away to 6000 miles here are some tricks *****installing a magnet on the oil filter is an egine saver . *****adding 25-30% trans fluid in the motor would clean ur engine (u cant keep it for more then 30 minutes *****5w20 lube better if u drive city , lower speed and short trip ****10w40 lube better at high speed , long trip.and the thicker the oil the better but not good for cold weather . thinner oil would give u better gas milleage too becaus eit's easy to turn inside the engine . installing an oil cooler would save the engine some life this is what all the true about changing oil and etc, see what u belive and hope my advise help
