Q: why does my 1999 toyota tacoma sound like it makes a kind of ''pop'' noise upon startup?

A: Really need more info to identify this "pop". It could be a problem with the starter, could be a backfire through the intake, could be a "miss" in the ignition, could be a backfire through the exhaust. An excessive lean condition could cause a pop. If it is happening consistently I would take it in and reproduce the problem for the mechanic so it can be repaired.

Q: I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma 2WD 4 cyl and I want to have a tough look. What should I do?
I get about 15 - 25 miles per gallon which to me is horrible. I have bigger tires and some heavy fricking rims on it. Since it has a 4 cyl engine its pushing hard for those tires...I go across a lot of bridges for work so I also want to find some better mileage. I have no clue what the good and cheap products are out there. I just know how to install it. So any product you think will help please post it! and dont tell me to sell the truck...i was lied to whem i was sold the truck. the man told my father it was 4WD and my father has no clue how to tell if it is or not. it was a bithday gift so im stuck with it.

A: Think of it this way, if there were cheap ways to increase mileage, wouldnt they already be on there?

Q: my toyota tacoma 1999 prerunner is overheating?
I changed the water pump, radiator, and thermostat, but my car is still overheating. I check my water every day, and there is always less. I checked the hoses and i cant find any openings. I did all of that and my car is still hot. Just 2 minutes, and my meter tells me it 3/4 hot. Can anybody please tell me how to fix this thanks

A: Most commonly to overheat that quick is a faulty water pump . remove the cap and see if you got flow. Possibility the thermostat is stuck close

Q: Replace a starter for a 1999 toyota Tacoma
We have removed the starter from the moter but can not get the starter out between the brake lines and other thing are in the way do i have to remove the manafold pipe can anybody help Thanks Steve O

A: Hey Steve O. I can't get your starter out but I can tell you after it's out...no need to replace it.Instead get a set of starter contacts (at Toyota or parts house) and replace solenoid contacts & plunger. It will work like new & you'll save money (it will still be better than an aftermarket rebuilt starter even if it comes with a lifetime warranty). Been there / Done that.

Q: MY 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA PRE RUNNER squeals upon taking my foot off the gas.?
IT WAS SQUEALING UPON STARTUP, THEN I HAD THE ALTERNATOR BELT TIGHTENED, AND IT STOPPED WHEN I START IT UP. NOW IT DOES IT WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. PLEASE HELP!

A: Go buy some amorall and spray down your belt with it. You can also try belt dressing. They generally help get rid of squeals in belts

I Have a 2 wheel drive 1999 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner and the tires i want to put on my truck are the 32X11.5R15/C BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM and i was wondering if anyone knew if these would fit without rubbing and without any truck modifications. I have on my truck at this point are size 265/75R15.

A: go to www.tirerack.com and enter your year & model of truck. They'll tell you exactly what fits.

Q: My 1999 Toyota Tacoma recently has trouble starting, and is making a loud grinding noise when I drive it?
I have had the truck for 6 years, and have never had any problems with it. The only time it has ever NOT started is once when I needed a new battery in the winter, and once when I needed to add fuel injector cleaner. When I needed the cleaner, the "check engine" light came on and it wouldn't start. Now, the "check engine" light is NOT on, but when I go out in the mornings, it sometimes won't even try to crank. Then I turn the key back and forth a few times, and it starts fine. Also, I've noticed the last couple of days that it is making a weird grinding noise like metal scraping metal when I drive. I don't hear it once I get going on a straight path, but that may be because the wind itself is too loud. I think it gets worse when I am turning slowly (like into a parking lot), but I also hear it when I put on my brakes to stop at a stoplight, or when I take off. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

A: Your truck has problems, but it's still gold. http://www.ttora.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1178396&postcount=39

Q: How would I find out if this recall applies to my 1999 tacoma if my letter from Toyota was lost in the mail?
Toyota dealer says it can't do anything without this letter. thank you, Ed

A: The dealer can run the vin and find out if it applies. If they say they cant go somewhere else because they are lying to you. I work for a Toyota Dealer.

Q: I want to make a toyota tacoma built for speed, but also mud!
I bought a 1999 toyota tacoma 2WD 4cly. Its a huge project for me and a learning experience. My goal is to take a worthless crap truck and basically make it fast and mud friendly. I want to know what I need to do to reach my goal. any suggestion besides selling it would help! (anything helps: engine change, exhaust, lift, tires, rims, intakes, ANYTHING!) Thanks!

A: Aight, to make it fast you will want to replace the standard air filter, but since its gonna be in mud you need a heavy duty one also, a cold air intake wouldnt be a good idea because it would get lots of mud into it, ignition advance is a good cheap mod with noticable mods, if its gonna be used for fun only and not road use you could get ride of the un needed things, door interior skins, unused seats etc... A 2.5" exhuast system should make it sound mean and make it a bit faster, get rid of the cat and get a set of headers should help flow also, if you wanna go real fast you could chuck on a turbo/super but thats a big step and will cost $$$$ as for mud driving you will probably want a limited slip diff, jack it upp, get some bigger rims but make sure you have bigger profile wheels also, a strut brace will help your steering become a bit more ridget, if you wanted to go real hardcore you could get or build a roll cage, install a racing seat with a 4 or 6 point harness and get a 350 chev or somethin dropped into it, Good luck

Q: what engines are interchangeable on a 1999 toyota corolla ...I have the standard 4 cylinder engine ...??
And if anybody also know what engines are interchangable on a 1999 toyota tacoma, it also is a 4 cylinder 2.4 liter ... tryin to get the most horsepower without cutting the frame or body .....

A: most toyota engines for that model are the same, the best way to improve horse power is by after market parts like cold air intake, exhaust, timing, weight reduction, even adding a turbo

Q: How much could I sell a 99 Toyota Tacoma for?
I currently own a 1999 Toyota. It's a regular cab 2 door pickup truck. (seats 5 people). It has 140,00 miles on it, and the interior is in decent condition. It's exterior is in very good condition (no scratches on the paint). I just replaced the brakes on it, and installed a brand new radio system. About how much could I sell this for?

A: $137.41
