Q: I have a 2004 gmc sierra, excessive wheel hop in 4 HI, had the 4X4 checked cause it said service 4X4?
I tells me to service 4x4 in the speedo screen and when it does that it won't let me put it into 4 wheel drive. Did this truck come with full possi? Speedo also stops working after about 1/2 hour of driving, it seems to get sticky!
A: Why did you not tell the service man you had a light lit about service, had wheel hop in 4 wheel drive and speedo not working properly? Did they service the 4 wheel drive? What did they finally come up with? Sounds like the wheel locks broke.
Q: 2004 GMC Sierra airbags deployed, do front sensor go bad?
I was involved in an accident, both airbags deployed. I bought good airbags and airbag control module to replace them. My question is do the front airbags impact sensor go bad when the bags deploy or can I nust replace the bags and controll module? I realize I can go to the dealer and get an answer but they are concerned with making money and could say yes even if they don't. Thanks.
A: yes you have to replace everything or they have the chance of going off again

dont bother with the dealer; they will charge you a king's ransom.
Q: 2004 GMC Sierra make a klunking noise only on right turns and at any speed.?
This truck has 4 WD it makes like a klunking noise anytime the wheel is turned to the right and at any speed fast or going one mile per hour. It only does it when the wheel is being turned to the right never to the left. I looked at the tie rods and did not see any noticeable slop in them. Any other ideas? I thought maybe ball joints?
A: Very common complaint.
The noise is coming from the intermediate steering shaft.
Here's the GM bulletin.
#00-02-35-003N: Clunking Noise Under Hood and Can Be Felt in Steering Wheel and/or Steering Column (Replace Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (I-Shaft) Assembly) - (Mar 26, 2008)
The shaft is very easy to replace. Cost $110.00 from dealer.
part # 19153614.

Q: I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with the cd player controls on the steering wheel.?
Im getting an aftermarket cd player will the controls still work or do I need something special. thanks
A: As stated before, pioneer does have a module that works with it, so does alpine, sony. many other brands as well. The adapters to make it work cost about a 100 dollars as well. That's on top of the expensive wiring harness taht you might buy for your GM truck, depending if you have onstar or bose or if you want to keep the doorchimes.
Q: how to make my 2004 gmc sierra 4dr v8 350 5.3L truck faster?
i have a 2004 gmc sierra 4dr. its a v8 350 either 5.3l or 5.7 l engine. i have a KandN intake system installed, and a computer programmer installed and set on performance. i also have 22's rims and 30in tires on it. i really want my truck fast. but with all this on it i dont feel that its got that drag race speed. i want to know what i should do to make it live up to my standards. when im at a stop light and i punch it, it seems like it is taking way to long to get to 60mph. in my buddies truck with no upgrades it seems to be able to burnout from a stop and faster. i dont know if i need to do something to my first gear or what, i just want it to be burning tires by punching it down from a dead stop and just plain old muscle. please help.
A: First of all your 350 is a 5.7 lt. he K7N filter and intake is a good start. Now that you have air flowing into your engine you have to let it out. Upgrade the exhaust with a 3 or 4 inch system with high flow caddy converters and something like Magna flo mufflers.
Your 350 should be roasting the tires at will when you goose the throttle. You might have a timing issue. Have the engines timing checked and corrected if need be. Are your tires inflated to the correct pressure? This can make a vehicle very sluggish and inefficient. You might have the T.P.S. (throttle position sensor) checked for correct voltage. It may be defective and holding back your truck. If the voltage is too high or low you can slot one of the mounting holes on the sensor and very, very minutely adjust the position of the sensor till you get a reading of .94 volts. The difference is like night and day. How long has it been since you changed the trans fluid and filter? Iridium plugs indexed toward the intake as well as larger plug wires will add a couple to a few horses. I know you have a K&N filter but is it clean? I clean mine every 5000 miles.
If you have a"check engine soon" light on in your truck, you should have the codes read asap and address the problems indicated. You can get 12 to 14 extra horses just by turning off your a/c. Your friends truck may be geared lower than yours, enabling his seemingly effortless burnouts. You have 30 inch tires, it takes a lot of power to spin those. Did you modify the computer programmer for the size of your tires? I don't mean did you calibrate the speedometer, putting larger tires on your truck and not telling the computer about it can make your truck like a turtle. Not to mention, harm your transmission.
Check for after market performance computer chips for your truck. The programmer you have is working with a stock computer system, however, in tandem with a hot outlaw chip your Sierra would scream.
I hope at least some of this helps you
Q: 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 Tires?
If I put 285/70/17 tires on my 04 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71, will the tires rub the inside of the fenders?
I have 275/70/17 tires on my truck, which is an odd size. Not many make that size. I was thinking of putting 285/70/17 BFG A/T K/O on it, but don't want the tires to rub. What size is everyone else putting on?
A: It will likely rub, especially on bumps or rough roads. The 285/70 is about 2 inches wider and 3" taller than your stock size. That's about a 9% difference, so your odometer and speedo will be wrong, and your stock gears will work harder to turn the increased rotational mass. Plus the heavier tires factored in and your truck will feel S-L-O-W! This will be a noticeable drop in performance and gas mileage will suffer alot.
If you really want to do this, you will need to re-gear at least to 4.11, but 4.56 would be better. Also, you may need to lift the truck (springs and shocks).
Q: Power Steering 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab 4x4 with 98,000 miles?
I noticed last summer at times when stopped the power steering became difficult and felt like it would skip (hard, easy) just every once in a while now it is increasingly becoming more frequent and the time of the cut out are longer and are somtimes at low speed and not just when stopped. Any ideas and the fluid has never been low
A: sounds like a loose belt or it is "glazed" and needs to be replaced
Q: 2004 GMC Sierra leaks coolant into engine. Mechanics told me its the head gaskets. what are my options?
Mechanics have told me that the gaskets dont cost much ~$300 plus other parts. but its the labor that will kill me. total ~$1500-2000
Can I find out if GM will cover some cost? I mean my truck is not that old but does have quite some miles ~130,000.
What are my best options?
Thanks people
A: Eat the cost.
GM isn't exactly customer friendly over the years and the truck is long out of warranty.
Q: 2004 GMC sierra headlight question?
i was wondering if i got a set of projectors off ebay that they will be able to work with 8000K HID kits. or if i would get more light out of a stock headlight?
A: projector lights are designed to create a pencil style beam which means they look a long ways ahead in a narrow path, the stock style lights are designed to give more of a wide beam which translates into more light closer to the vehicle but not much in the way of distance my recommendation is to put the hid kit in the stok headlight assembly then you will have the best of both worlds the intensity of the hid and the wide path that is designed into the stock lights
Q: i want to know the fuel tank capacity for a 2004 gmc sierra extended cab pick up with a six foot bed.?
A: Direct from GM;
Fuel Tank

26 gallons
Q: I have a 2004 gmc sierra Z71. The belt is squeeking. Is this common on the Z71's?
My brother has the same truck and he has the same problem only his truck is 2 years older
How do I go about tightening the belt and is there such thing as overtightening it?
A: It is common in all vehicles that need the belt tightened, new or old.
Q: I have a 2004 gmc sierra,4.3L vortec engine with 85,000K. The oil filter leaks and gushes oil. Any ideas why
The retaining stud for the oil filter is ok and is not stripped. My me chanic says it is possible the oil pressure is too high. when a new filter is put on and oil added to the engine, the engine will run ok for 20 minutes, then the oil filter starts gushing oil. Has anybody else had this problem?
A: Obviously , this happened again after you replaced the filter a second time. making sure the old filter's O ring seal is not left behind.(I can't believe that your mechanic would not notice it twice)
WITH THAT SAID.
YES, I have seen this twice in the many years working for GM
The problem is the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump
You need to replace the oil pump.
I know it's weird, BUT THAT'S THE FIX..................
Nothing wrong with your mechanic, just a little inexperienced. (can't know every problem with every make & model) he probablly knows more about nissan /toyota /ford/, etc. than I do.
Q: i bought projector headlights for my 2004 gmc sierra. I need help on how to install them. thanks?
A: Pop the hood and pull out the two L-shape rods and remove the old ones..............
