Q: What is the average life expectancy of a Ford Ranger?
I'm looking at buying a used Ford Ranger. A lot of ones I see are 2000's with around 100,000 miles. About how long or how many miles will they last without serious repairs?

A: depending on the care of the truck. your definately at the last legs of the Ranger motor wise it will likely smoke a little in the morning and may not pass smog checks without fresh tune ups and the like. if you could find one with a good body but a blown motor at a great price it would be worth getting a new motor and clutch or rebuilt auto trans. they ride good get good milage. you can get a used Ranger cheeper than that Nissan pickup the other guy mentioned and I dont like paying more because it has a name more popular. the Ranger rides better than the Nissan

Q: Can an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger?
I'm a very amateur mechanic. I replace things like spark plugs, alternators, starters, maybe a water pump when it breaks. I think I need new tie rods on my 95 Ford Ranger, but I'm not sure I'm up to the job. How hard is it?

A: Yes you can, also depending how rusty and gunked up are they. You might bust a knuckle or too. Good luck!

Q: What is the name of the diagnostics interface on a 95 Ford Ranger?
after 1996 all vehicles come with OBD-II on the side, does anyone know what is the name of the connector under the steering wheel for a 1995 Ford ranger or a 1995 Mazda B2300 .

A: That is called the 16-pin DLC (Data Link Connector). Even though your truck is a 1995 model year, it is still OBD-II compliant, as were some models older than 1996. If it weren't OBD-II compliant, you would find one 6-pin and one 1-pin connector under the hood for scan tool hook up on ALL Ford products that are pre-OBD-II. Hope this helps.

Q: Where can I find a replacement steering wheel center emblem for a 2002 ford ranger edge? How do I replace it?
I bought a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge.On the Steering Wheel the Ford Emblem was dented in.I'm just trying to find one and replace it to make it look better.

A: Unfortunately the emblem may be part of the airbag assembly. Better check with Ford to find out if it is available seperately. If it is most likely it is held with double sided 3m mounting tape.

Q: How do you change Brake Pads on a 2002 Ford Ranger?
I have a 2002 Ford Ranger and I need to change the brake pads. Can someone direct me to a website or give me instructions on how to change the brake pads? Is it extremely difficult? Should I just take it in? How much does it cost to take the car in to change the brake pads?

A: Really quite simple 1. measure the rotor diameter the parts shop may need that. 2. Get pads and rotors don't worry about the super dooper pads that cost twice as much. get the cheaper ones with a life time warranty 3 YOU MUST replace the rotors I recommend that to all my customers. yes you can turn them but I find on trucks that they will warp easily and I only give an installation warranty I don't warrant against warped rotors on any truck/van There are two TORX head bolt I am told are 40mm get a set of torx sockets. 4..with a large screwdriver or the caliper retract tool, I usually use a screwdriver, go between the pad and rotor of the inboard pad and pry the pad apart to the full extent it will go this is required before pulling the 2 bolts that take off the caliper, replace the rotor it pops right off and the pads watch those keepers as they prevent squeaking, If you get a tube of blue anti-squeal put it on the back of the pad not the face. reassemble as you removed and do the other one. when you first start the truck press the brakes a couple of times to put pressure on the new pads and there you have it... We do this task in about an hour so plan on a first time 3 hours. It is quite simple..

Q: Ford Ranger having problems with hot floor on passenger side?
I've got an 02 Ford Ranger with about 60k miles on it. I noticed that if I drive more than say 30miles the floor on the passenger side gets very hot. I took it in to the shop thinking it was a catalytic converter problem, but they checked it out and said they couldn't find any issues at all. What is going on here? Could something else be the problem, or is the shop i'm going to full of incompetents?

A: Could be the other guy is right you've a missing heat shield or the exhaust isn't in the right place and too close to the floor but you're right it sounds like a converter issue some way or another.Be sure to get a few opinions on this issue bec it's not good for the floor to get so hot like that at all. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way you might call the dealership and enquire where the heat shields are exactly and check it out at some exhaust shop that offers free exhaust checks.

Q: How do you remove the hydraulic clutch line from the transmission on a 1992 Ford Ranger?
I'm trying to change the clutch in my 1992 Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive 3.0 V6 I have everything disconnected except for the hydraulic clutch line I went a bought the special tool to do this and I still cant get the line to come out. I tryed using the tool to push the white ring in towards the transmission/slave cylinder and it does niot seem to want to move. can anyone explain what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to remove this line it is the only thing keeping me from droping this trans and replacing the clutch. thank you. I tryed that but the white ring dose not seem to want to move. The white ring seems to be fully pressed in but the plastic hydraulic line is still stuck in. even after cleaning it compressed air and a penetrating oil.

A: Sounds like you are doing what needs to be done. Maybe there is dirt in the retainer keeping it from moving. Try spraying some penetrating fluid around it. Also try pushing in on the line and twisting while pressing the white collar, then pull outward>

Q: How much more fuel efficient is the Ford Ranger than the Ford F-150?
I am currently considering trading my truck in (4x4 Ford F-150 Supercrew with its 5.4 cly V8 Triton engine) for something smaller and potentially more fuel efficient. Is it REALLY worth trading in the truck for a Ford Ranger 4x4 Manual Transmission? I use it to commute to and from work and light hauling.

A: my 2003 ranger 4x4 and my 2005 F-150 4x4 crewcab get about the same mpg. the ranger actually was worse until i put in a new thermostat and fan clutch
