Q: 2005 Chevy Silverado power steering Binds and makes noise when turning to the left?
I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado Z-71 power steering Binds and makes noise when turning to the left, is this the steering gear box or pump? and has anybody had the same problem with their Silverado?

A: It doesn't sound like it would be the steering box or the pump. I'd take it to a shop that specializes in front end work, such as an alignment place. It probably is caused by a seizure of some mechanical linkage, and could be dangerous to drive. Please be careful, and don't let this persist. Good luck to you.

Q: Can I replace the fuel filter in a 2005 Chevy Silverado?
Since the fuel filter is apparently in the fuel tank, I got the impression that it is only replacable if you replace the whole pump. Are they still using the cylindrical filter or is it just built in? I bought a chevy because i thought they were trustworthy but if i have to pay $400 dollars just to replace a clogged fuel filter i am going to be irate. It is NOT on the frame. That is where I looked to begin with and it is not there.

A: 1st off, the fuel filter IS on the frame rail under the truck, sometimes they will put it on the back side of the engine, but not always. 2nd off, the fuel pump IS located in the tank and it has a fuel strainer/filter, but it doesn't filter as well as a normal filter. IT is only a preliminary filter and NOT all fuel pumps have this type of filter but all fuel pumps do have a strainer. 3rd, ALL vehicles can and are reliable with proper maintenance and care.

Q: How do you replace the wiper blade on a 2005 Chevy Silverado?
I am having difficulties because it seems that I can not get the wiper to raise all the way off the windshield. The way the thing is designed there is a piece of metal in the way. In the manual for the truck it says to flip the blade over but without being able to lift the entire mechinism i am not able to get underneath the blade to release the J hook. Anyone have similar problems and or a solution?

A: We replace wipers all day long at our shops & the design on these are a pain. You have to turn on the ignition & wipers, when wipers come up towards the windshield pillar, turn off key & wipers will stop in the up position. Do this change with hood down. pull up on wiper arm & it will need to "bend" a little. don't break. move wiper like a "t" position & it should now come off. There are two clips on the "OEM" wipers. It may come off after the "t" position (the wiper when resting in normal position actually holds wiper clip on by the frame of wiper not allowing clip to expand outward). If not it may have a small tab underneath that needs to be pressed & pulled @ same time. Hope this helps.

Q: Where is the fuse located for the cigarette lighter in a 2005 Chevy Silverado?
I don't have my owners manual.

A: Look under the dash for the fuse box. It should be a 10 or 15 amp fuse.

Q: Rear doors on my 2005 chevy silverado do not lock all the time.?
I've herd other people having this problem, But have not found a solution. Any advise would be helpful.

A: I know on mine if I do not press the lock button twice it will not lock all the doors. Been like that since new clueless why though. Also if one of my doors is not closed all the way it will not lock they say that is a safety feature. I do not know if you have the anti theft on yours or not. If so say like someone else has a key to it with the remote. They park real close to you it stops it from locking also. I have that problem all the time. My wife has a set of keys if she leaves them in her car my truck will not lock at all.

Q: How can I disable the open door chime on my 2005 chevy silverado??I want to play music with door open!?
please, there must be a way to disable and turn off the annoying door chime. If i am fixing or detailing, then i want music playing with out a loud BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP ! help me please there is no visible door switch !! HELP!! on the 2005 silverado pickup truck , the door chime comes through the steareo speaker in the door , so there is no way of pulling the chime module or foaming the chime itself, since it is part of the stereo system. arghhh!! any other help please?

A: I own a shop, and you could do what I did. I went to Lowe's and purchased a spray can of foam insulation, sprayed some into the chime, let it set up an turn to foam, and you guessed it, that got rid of that @%#&*@% noise. Part 2: Ok if yours is wired through your radio, then you have a couple of options. You can go to the parts store, and order a "Haynes Repair Manual" for your vehicle (they may have one in stock) and in the back of this book you will find the wiring diagrams. This should tell you how this is wired into your sytstem going to the radio. You can also go to the library and pull a copy of a "Chilton's Repair Manual", and it too should have the wiring diagram you will need. You could also do a process of elimination. Pull the radio out of the dash, and unplug the harness to the radio. Make a jumper wire to hook these connectors (one at a time) to the radio until you find the one that runs the chime. You will have to have a (+) positive, and a (-) ground to the radio all the time so you may have to jump this too in order to keep the radio powered up. Once you locate the wire that works the chime, then all you have to do is remove it from the harness. I haven't seen one that worked through the radio, but who knows about how they have it done. One thing that has me puzzled here is this; How can it be wired through your radio, the radio is not on all the time? It may be the module for the chimes is put inside the radio to keep it tamper proof, but every one I have ever seen had its own chime box, and its usually on the fuse block inside the vehicle. Once you get a wiring diagram for your particular vehicle, you should be able to see how its tied into the radio. It may be just a wire going to the front speakers, and not wired through the radio at all. You could remove one of the speakers, and look for a third wire to the speaker that doesn't have anything to do with the two that comes from the radio. I would vote for removing a speaker, and see if this isn't the case. If you do unplug it from the speakers, then don't just leave it hanging, tape it up so it doesn't short to ground. I would think you could remove the fuses one at a time until you find the circuit that operates the chime this way. There is always a remote chance of not being able to disconnect it, if other stuff is tied into the same circuit. May be if you unhook it, the interior lights won't work. I hope this will point you in the right direction. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

A: go to the auto parts store and buy a brake spoon on your backing plate is a elongated hole with a rubber plug pull the plug on the other side of the hole is a little wheel you turn that wheel with the brake spoon I don't quite which way but by tuning it the correct way you will retract the brake shoes . what you have on your drums is a ridge and by retracting your shoes you should be able to pull your drums off

Q: 2005 Chevy Silverado rear doors not locking?
Our rear doors do not lock consistantly. It doesn' matter if we use the remote, or the lock button (that locks all the doors), the only way to lock them is manually. We have had it in the dealership 3 times (2 differant ones) and although they have done several things, it is still having problems. It is a 2500HD 05 Silverado 4 door. Has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you get it fixed. Also have you ever heard of this? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

A: I am having the same problem with my 2003 Chevy 2500 HD. I wish I had an answer for you, but I have also had mine in the shop once, and they had no answer either. Have you tried changing out the relay switch that locks the doors? That is the only troubleshooting I am thinking I might do, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Q: Will a body lift on a 2005 Chevy Silverado void the factory warranty?

A: It won't void it if the factory installs it. However, if you have an extended warranty that picks up where the factory warranty leaves off, it may or may not affect that warranty.

Q: if you change speedometer cluster in 2005 Chevy silverado can the dealer plug it into the computer to tell mil
i had to change mine and the new one started at o.can the dealer tell how many miles it has on it if they plug in to there computer . someone said the factory does not do this unless there is something serious wrong / wreck or death / or serious warranty issue. has anybody anything on this? THANKS

A: the cluster is the only thing that has the mileage. the other computers get the amount from the cluster. you also have to prgogram the new cluster anyway when you put in. if you don't get the miles put in you are commiting odometer fraud

Q: Fuel pick up issues on 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500.?
I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado V6 with 80k on it. When the gas tank gets to 1/4 tank or lower I lose allot of power when accelorating. After putting more gas in up to 1/2 tank or more I regain the power until I get to passing gear and then the truck falls on its nose again, unless I slowly add pressure to the gas pedal.

A: its very possible that you have a fuel sending unit not working right on it,and it may actually be running out of gas at that point,i have had the same problem with my truck also and a few other customers vehicles,if i pulled it down to replace it id replace the pump also, even though its working now, there still a chance it may have pulled something up in it that could be causing this to happen also,if possible try and clean the tank out a little when you have it down ,there may be some debris on there causing this to happen,we cleaned one a few weeks ago that had a leaf inside of it,and the owner swears he doesn't know how it got in it,good luck on it,and happy thanksgiving.
