Q: Problems with climate control on a 2003 Chevy Silverado truck?
My husband has a 2003 Chevy Silverado. We changed the battery on it about 3 months ago. After doing this the air conditioner will blow hot air for no reason. The air conditioner can be off and the hot air still comes out. The truck has dual climate control where the driver and passenger can be at different temps. The passenger side will have cool air and the driver side will have the heater blowing. If we turn the truck off and back on the problem corrects itself. Has anyone dealt with this or does anyone have any suggestions what the problem could be?
A: The left side temp mode door actuator is bad. I had the same truck with the same problem, and I also get alot of warranty claims with this same complaint and the GM guys say it is very common for these temp mode door actuators to go bad. There is one on the left side and one on the right side, and it sounds like the left side actuator is intermittently shorting.
Q: What would it cost to put in a new transmission in my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4X4?
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4X4, diesel engine that needs a new transmission. I am checking to see if anyone out there knows approx. how much it would cost me so that I don't get ripped off at a garage.
A: You're looking at around $2500 for the transmission, and maybe another $1000 for installation, if not more than that. Your truck has the Allison transmission that's paired with the Duramax diesel, which is far from cheap, especially with 4wd. Once you get a price quote, let us know what it is. If you're paying more than around $5000 (including a limited warranty in case it goes out) for a new one or around $4000 rebuilt one, it's too much.
Q: How can I upgrade my 2003 Chevy Silverado to XM radio?
I currently have a bose factory system in my 2003 silverado, and I want to get xm installed permanently, what will I need to do this and can a stereo installer install it and at what cost??
A: Go to the following website and call them.
http://www.crutchfield.com/
They helped me with XM in my Car. Most likely you'll have to replace your head unit, and find an adapter to convert the BOSE Amp to something else. Crutchfield will know everything!
Q: I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado with a battery draining problem.?
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado V6 with only 13,000 miles on it with a battery draining problem. I have pull the battery and still have something pulling 9 1/2 volts. I have pulled the fuses in the cab and in the engine and still 9 1/2 volts. Something must be shorting out? Any ideas?
A: #1. Alternator
#2. Voltage Regulator
Q: Are headlights for 2003 Chevy Silverado the same as the ones for 2003 Avalanche?
Hi. I'm interested in buying aftermarket lights for my 2003 Chevy Avalanche and I was wondering if both the upper and lower half (sorry for the lack of technical names) of the lights are 100% compatible with these 2 trucks of the same year.
A: For that year I don't think they matched. I think it was the 2004 silverado that wen tot the cats eye head light that they would come close to matching.
Q: 2003 Chevy Silverado Clunk. What could it be?
I just purchased a 2003 Chevy Silverado with 50k miles on it. I noticed a few days later when the automatic transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear there is a clunk noise. Since then I brought it back to the dealership and they rebuilt the rear end, Transmission and the transfer case. It does not sound as bad but you can still hear the clunk when it shifts into 3rd gear. The is a pause and you can tell its something mechanical. When I got it back the guy said that these trucks all do it when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear. While it was getting repaired I had a 2007 in the same model. This truck shifted fine and smooth. No clunk. Is this just an issue with the 2003 model? Am I getting jerked around? Anyone have a clue what it might be that has encountered this problem? Only answer if you know what it is. Don't answer if you are just going to guess please. Thanks for all the help!
A: I had this happen to my mercedes (RWD). In my case it was the drive shaft coupling at the transmission. It had some play and when the transmission shifts, power is cut for a split second, the car decellerates and unloads the tension on the coupler, then reloads it (CLUNK!) when it engages in the next gear. In your case you don't have a soft coupling, you have U-joints.
Good luck!
Edit- I should really add to this... you should notice it in other gears but probably not as bad. There's almost always one gear change in any transmission that's a little harder than the others.
Q: Is something wrong with the brakes on my 2003 Chevy Silverado?
When I drive slow, my truck makes a rubbing sound like one of the brake calipers is rubbing. When I brake, it vibrates. The vibration is more at higher speeds. What's wrong?
A: You might have warped brake rotors and worn brake pads
Q: 2003 chevy silverado trailering package?
I have a 2003 silverado LT Z71 , want to know on the 7 prong , trailer plug , will this control the trailer breaks on a travel trailer that has the same plug
I should add , this is a new trailer , and the truck wiring hasent been touched ,,
A: i sold chevrolets & gmc for 20 years from 1985-2005
chevy truck honor club, chevy legion of leaders sales recognition
clubs an exclusive recognition for their top sellers.
so... here goes:
no, it wont, but just two or three wires. & about 65.00 labor, plus the part. ( electronic brake)
you need an electric trailer brake installed under the dash. but go to a gm or chev service dept, or a reputable rv sales & service facility.the truck has anti-lock brakes, use a trained gm service professional. that way. you'll get a free warranty on labor & parts. it's an expensive truck. don't cut corners or take chances. trailer towing is serious business.
hope this helps
Q: What spark plugs should I use for a 2003 Chevy Silverado?
I bought a truck almost a year ago. I have no idea when or if the spark plugs have been changed. I would like to improve gas milage on the truck . the Truck is the 2500HD with the 6.0L V8 and it is a regular cab truck.. The truck seems to have a misfire when it is started up in the morning.. Should I use the AC Delco or the Splitfires?
A: The only brand spark plug that belongs in a Chevy is an ACDelco spark plug either double platinum or iridium. I would also suggest replacing the plug wires as well.
Bosch plugs do not belong in any vehicle as they are junk.
Champion go in Chrysler products.
NGK goes in foreign cars.
Autolites and Motorcraft go in Ford.
Q: how can i find out how to program a keyless entry remote for my 2003 chevy silverado?
i had to buy a new one and want to program it myself instead of paying the dealership to do so.
A: You cannot the 2003 models started using a new central computer that controls everything now. You will have to go to the dealer or someone wh o has a TECHII hand held computer like the dealers. How do I know Chevrolet salesman since 1999.
Q: How long should a power steering pump last in a 2003 chevy silverado that has been well taken care of?
A: depends on what day they made it on a teusday maybe ok but on a friday forget it they just want out of the shop. No, really there is no real time frame for a steering pump. Essentially it should last for the life of the car whatever that is supposed to be. have owned many cars and put 100k's of miles and never had to replace one. Maybe just lucky but I am under the assumption that they last pretty much forever. But there is always room for errors when they are built.
Q: What is the best way to remove the side moldings on a 2003 chevy silverado?
A: If it's stick-on molding (I'm not sure if it is), I have had good luck using a hair dryer set on "High" to heat up a small area, peel it back an inch or two, then heat up the next area. A heat gun works well, too - but you have to be careful not to burn or blister the paint - it's a lot hotter. If there is any glue residue, a little WD-40 or lighter fluid , a rag and elbow grease will remove the remaining glue without destroying the paint. Good Luck!
Q: How do you adjust the parking brake on an 2003 chevy silverado and what tools are needed?
A: All parking brakes work by a cable, look under truck and you can see cable usualy on left side. You will see the adjuster in the cable just turn it one way or the other and watch to see if you are going the right way. One way will make it tighter and the other way looser. If this does not work then you probably need to replace rear brakes.
Q: About how much to reupholster the seats in a 2003 chevy silverado with leather?
A: You should call your local Chevy dealers service dept. They can give you the phone number of the best upholster shop that does the best work and the best prices. We keep track of these shops and can tell you who's quality and prices are the best.Best of luck.
Q: 2003 chevy silverado 1500 regular cab two wheel drive?
Between 0 and up to 70 or more, no problem, very smooth ride. When I apply the brakes, at no mater what speed, there is a bad vibration in front. Could this be brake pads, or brake rotors? I only have 31,000 miles on it. Purchased new. Any suggestions?
A: brakes, alignment, or tire balance... most likely brakes
